From October 2025 to October 2026, I won’t be available for bookings due to my master’s studies in England.

Leo Launhardt

DJ

It all started in the basement of the Alfred-Delp dorm during my studies. Even though it was a great party spot, I quickly realized the music wasn’t cutting it — so I taught myself to DJ. Soon, I became the go-to DJ for the dorm. The vibe improved, parties got bigger, and people really liked the music.

Before long, student groups started reaching out, looking for someone who understands the crowd, plays modern tunes, and dances along. Without much promotion, word spread, and eventually weddings, clubs, and formal balls followed.

Today, I’m proud to bring all that experience into my professional DJ career!

Percussion

Everything started with the drums for me. From first grade onwards, I received diverse drum lessons and related training from Michael Born, something I’m still grateful to my parents for today. My older siblings quickly took me along to the local wind orchestra of the Dehrn volunteer fire department, where I developed a deep passion for making music with and for other people.

This was followed by many years in various orchestras at the Tilemannschule and the Limburg music school, including concert tours to France and competitions like the German Gymnastics Festival with the TV Runkel brass orchestra.

These experiences paved the way for me to join the JugendPercussionEnsemble Hessen, where I regularly participated in intensive rehearsal phases under the direction of Dr. Max Gärtner. Especially formative were concerts at internationally renowned festivals such as the Rheingau Music Festival, the Höri Music Days at Lake Constance, and a joint performance with members of the German National Youth Orchestra at the Federal Music School Congress.

A personal highlight was winning 2nd prize at the Bundeswettbewerb Jugend musiziert in the Percussion Solo category — a moment that strengthened me both musically and personally.

Even during my studies, music remained a constant part of my life: I played drums in the big band and timpani in the Mannheim University Symphony Orchestra for several years.

Trumpet

For more than 10 years now, I have also been playing the trumpet and received lessons from Kai Tobisch. This has given me great versatility in all ensembles and a new perspective on music, which I find very enriching.

Together with my brother and three friends, we founded the brass quintet “Blechen” back in school. We gained our first performance experiences at weddings, art openings, benefit concerts, Jugend musiziert competitions, and the Dehrner Rabenfest — experiences that have proven to be very valuable for my current work as a trumpeter for wedding ceremonies.

Studies

Despite my deep passion for music, I deliberately chose not to pursue a music degree. Instead, I studied Economics at the University of Mannheim and the Toulouse School of Economics, graduating with honors in 2025.

I gained professional experience at the German Council of Economic Experts, the Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW), Ernst & Young, and as a Research and Teaching Assistant at the University of Mannheim.

For my dedication to music, academics, and society, I was awarded scholarships from the German Academic Scholarship Foundation and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.

Starting in October 2025, I will begin a Master’s degree in Statistics at the University of Oxford, so I will be available for bookings again from October 2026 onward.
